The 9th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition is happy to announce two more special awards, one by the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the other by the Royal Opera House JPYAP. The application deadline is extended to 18th of April.
The Leyla Gencer Voice Competition grants €12.500 for the first prize, €7.500 for the second, and €3.500 for the third. The competition also offers some estimable special awards: Leyla Gencer Audience Award, Accademia Teatro della Scala Special Award, and the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra Special Award. Now we are very happy to announce the Deutsche Oper Berlin Special Award, a role in a production by the company, which will be granted by the jury member Christoph Seuferle (Deutsche Oper Berlin Operndirektor), and the Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artists Programme Special Award, five coaching sessions, as well as an audition for the JPYAP, which will be granted by the jury member David Gowland (Artistic Director of ROH Jette Perker Young Artists Programme).
The jury, presided by Renato Bruson, also includes Sascha Goetzel (Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, and a regular guest conductor at the Vienna State Opera) and Yekta Kara (Former Director-in-Chief of the Turkish State Opera and Ballet and Head of Opera Department of the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatoire).
The live auditions of the competition will be held in Milan and Istanbul, while the applicants also have the choice of entering the auditions by uploading their video recordings online. The final series of the 9th Leyla Gencer Voice Competition will be held in Istanbul on 23-28 September 2018.
