Widely considered to be among the greatest directors of all time, legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola's most recent film Megalopolis that took him more than 40 years to make and which features an A-list cast and dazzling production design will be screened at a special avant-premiere as part of İKSV Galas.

Dividing audiences and critics alike, the sci-fi epic Megalopolis premiered in May at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Described by Coppola as 'a Roman epic set in an imaginary decadent modern America', Megalopolis' plot is inspired by the Roman conspiracy of Cicero and Catiline in 63 BCE.

The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, a self-sustaining city, and his corrupt opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor's daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.

Coppola has been trying to make this movie for more than 40 years, during which the project has gone through about 300 rewrites. Frustrated with Hollywood’s studio system, Coppola covered most of the $120 million budget of the film himself, like Apocalypse Now. The cast of Megalopolis includes Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Grace VanderWaal, Laurence Fishburne, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman.

The 85-year-old director of masterpieces such as The Godfather trilogy, The Conversation, Dracula says 'I have everything to lose here. And, in a way, I have nothing left to lose anymore.'
