İKSV Galas' farewell to 2018 with SİBEL
İKSV Galas presents SİBEL with the attendance of the crew and the lead stars Damla Sönmez and Erkan Kolçak Köstendil.
The third feature film by the Turkish-French Duo Çağla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti, following Noor (Cannes Acid 2012) and Ningen (Toronto 2013) which were screened at earlier editions of the Istanbul Film Festival. The film follows 25-year-old mute Sibel who communicates by using the ancestral whistled language of the area. When she crosses path with a fugitive, he is the first one to take a fresh look at her.
A France-Germany-Luxembourg-Turkey co-production, SİBEL was written by Çağla Zencirci, Ramata Sy and Giullaume Giovanetti. The cast includes Emin Gürsoy, Elit İşcan and Meral Çetinkaya.
The whistle language employed in the film was admitted to the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List in 2017.
SİBEL, won the FIPRESCI, Young Jury and Ecumenical Jury prizes at Locarno Film Festival where it premiered. It also received the Cineuropa Prize in Burssels Mediterranean Films Festival, the Audience Award in Pays de Fayence, CCAS Jury prize in CCAS, Best Film in Adana, European Producers Award in Hamburg, Audience Award and Critics’ Award in Cinémed Montpellier; and University Jury Award in Roma MedFilm Festival. Damla Sönmez won several awards for her performance in the film at Adana, Muret, Eskişehir, and London Film Week festivals.
Tickets will be available for sale as of 20 December with priority sales for Tulip Card Members starting 19 December 10.30.
The duration of the film is 95 minutes.
