Süleyman Doğru has been granted the 2021 Talât Sait Halman Translation Award for his patience and creativity in translating Mario Vargas Llosa's intricate and multi-layered historical novel The War of the End of the World (1981) into Turkish.
Translator Süleyman Doğru was born on 9 April 1969, in Keşan. He graduated from Galatasaray High School in 1988 and from the Department of French Language and Literature at Istanbul University in 1998. He also completed a training programme in Library Science and Documentation at the Institut Catholique de Paris. Married and the father of one, Süleyman Doğru has brought nearly fifty works of Spanish and French literature into Turkish, including those by prominent authors such as Juan Rulfo, Julio Cortázar, Mario Vargas Llosa, Montaigne, Carlos Fuentes, and Eduardo Galeano.
