Münir Ekonomi graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University in 1955, started his practice in education as labour law assistant at Istanbul Technical University in 1956 and resumed working at the same university after completing his PhD at Munich University, gaining his assistant professorship and professorship in the departments of Labour Law and Social Security.
Münir Ekonomi has over 300 publications, including many in languages other than Turkish. Ekonomi has run joint projects at the Department of Labour Law at the University of Zurich’s Faculty of Law, organised collaborative meetings with scientists from Germany’s twenty different universities 1979 onwards, and participated in conferences in Germany. He also presented papers in various universities in Switzerland and Germany, as well as in German Federal Labour Court, in addition to his participation in international conventions on Labour Law and Social Security with his proposals for declarations.
Münir Ekonomi took part in the writing of laws relating to regulations of individual and collective labour relations, starting with the Labour Law No. 931 of 1976, and most recently acted as a member of the Science Committee that prepared the Labour Law No. 4857 in Turkey.
Ekonomi had been serving as Advisor or Board Member to many nationally and transnationally funded corporations and holdings for many years.
Münir Ekonomi is also a collector of artworks, archaeological artefacts and antique books. He actively participates in social involvement projects and non-governmental organisations in their activities. Among the founders of Istanbul Technical University Foundation and a member of its Board of Trustees, Ekonomi is also the head of İKSV’s Board of Trustees; Board Member at Istanbul Modern Art Foundation, Istanbul Modern Museum and Friends of Istanbul Archaeological Museums Association; one of the founders and Board of Trustees Member of Ayvalık Art and Culture Foundation and Sagalassos Foundation, where he is also the head of the board.
