The children’s book Fanfare – A Musical Tale of Istanbul was published under the scope of the 47th Istanbul Music Festival held between 11 and 30 June, 2019, with the support of the Bernard Van Leer Foundation.

In the book, prepared by writer Göknil Özkök, illustrated by Kıymet Ergöçen, and edited by Burcu Ural Kopan, the twins Lale and Sinan embark upon a journey with Lord of the Music from Sürreya Opera House to Hagia Irene Church Museum, and from there to Galata Tower Square. As Lord of the Music gives Lale and Sinan a tour of the three venues of the Istanbul Music Festival, the book familiarises its young readers with musical instruments and composers through various games. The illustrated glossary at the end of the book helps children learn some terms and concepts of classical music.

Published in Turkish, English, Arabic and also printed in Braille, Fanfare – A Musical Tale of Istanbul was prepared under the supervision of Boğaziçi University, Department of Psychology faculty member Prof. Dr Feyza Çorapçı. The book also contains events designed for children and an illustrated glossary.

Free reading activities and workshops associated with Fanfare – A Musical Tale of Istanbul were held at various festival venues including İKSV Alt Kat, Austrian Culture Office Garden, Hagia Irene Church Museum Front Courtyard and Galata Tower Square for the duration of the 47th Istanbul Music Festival.
